PEOPLE METERS MOVE INTO VANCOUVER

Nielsen Media Research Canada will introduce its People Meter service to the Vancouver market in September. The operational sample will report constant around-the-clock Vancouver television audiences. Nielsen families who have People Meters in their homes push buttons on a small box that sits on top of the TV to indicate who is in the room. Sensors indicate what channels are being viewed. The data collected allows broadcasters to evaluate their schedule week by week. Agencies and advertisers also use the data to track their large investments based on the weeks their campaigns air. People Meters have been in Toronto and Hamilton, Ont. since 1995.
