Canadian Ophthalmological Society debuts AMD Month
By Rob Bale

The Canadian Ophthalmological Society has designated February as Age-Related Macular Degeneration Month. The intent is to raise awareness of this eye disease, with a focus on the importance of early detection. The effort is aimed at the general public as well as health care professionals.
“While many people associate AMD with old age, we believe the key to reducing its impact starts much earlier in life,” said Mona Dagher, president of the society. “Being proactive about eye health through regular screenings, a healthy lifestyle and early intervention can help reduce the risk of developing AMD, or at least slow its progression significantly.”
