NEW CROHN'S DRUG APPROVED

Health Canada approved a new drug to combat Crohn's disease this week. Called Entocort, the drug is supposed to induce remission in the majority of patients using it, while decreasing the steroid-related side effects caused by other Crohn's drugs. Distributed in capsule form, Entocort is manufactured by Mississauga, Ont.-based Astra Pharma Inc. Advertising for Entocort will be handled by SMW Advertising of Toronto, while Fleishman-Hillard, also of Toronto, is dealing with the product's PR. Astra Pharma is the Canadian subsidiary of Astra AB, a Swedish-based international pharmaceutical company.
