New Privacy Commissioner appointed

Philippe Dufresne has been appointed to the position of Privacy Commissioner of Canada. The appointment was approved unanimously by the House of Commons and the Senate. Dufresne’s seven-year term will begin on June 27. Dufresne a member of the Bars of Quebec, Ontario and Massachusetts. He has represented the Canadian Human Rights Commission as senior general counsel before various Canadian courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada. He was appointed law clerk and parliamentary counsel of the House of Commons in 2015.
