TV SPECIAL TO CHALLENGE CANADIANS' SCRUPLES

The Canadian Coalition Against Insurance Fraud will air a one-hour special next month which is designed to test the ethics of Canadians. Called The Great Canadian Scruples Challenge, the show was filmed in a "town hall meeting" setting with dramatized real-life scenarios forming the core of the program. The Scruples Challenge is part of a public awareness campaign being conducted by the coalition to highlight the cost of insurance fraud. Other elements include "Take Charge", a nationally syndicated radio show and a National Ethics Poll. Eight moral dilemmas are portrayed during the Scruples special. One includes a situation where an individual makes a bank machine withdrawal and receives too much money. Should they tell the bank, or keep the windfall? Results of a cross-Canada Insight Canada Research survey conducted for the coalition will be included in the show, so viewers can put their own responses in context. After the show's broadcast, the coalition will use it at town hall meetings across Canada. AGI Communications, a Toronto-based communications consulting and TV production company, produced the show. The coalition includes consumer advocates, police and fire services and private and public insurers. The show will air on the CanWest/Global network.
