WAL-MART ANNOUNCES NEXT EXPANSIONS

Mississauga, Ont.-based Wal-Mart Canada Inc. unveiled the second phase of its expansion plans for 1997 this week. The retail giant hopes to add six new locations in Alberta, Ontario and Quebec to its fold in the near future. New sites are slated for: Grande Prairie and Medicine Hat, Alberta; Ste. Foy and Levis, Quebec; and Orangeville, Ontario. In addition, the company's store in Ajax, Ontario will move to a larger location. In the first phase of its Canadian expansion plans Wal-Mart identified St. Bruno and Hull, Quebec as sites for new stores in addition to announcing it would relocate its Oakville, Ontario store. Wal-Mart Canada Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of U.S.-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc., operates 136 stores across Canada. Its Canadian agency of record is SMW Advertising Ltd. of Toronto.
