NEC ROLLS OUT NT NOTEBOOKS

U.S.-based NEC Computer Systems Division began shipping its first notebooks in North America this week that are factory-configured with Microsoft's Windows NT 4.0. The machines are called the Versa 6050NT and the 6200NT In addition to Windows NT, the computers offer enhanced power management and plug-and-play PC card capability. The 6050NT is already in distribution, while the 6200NT will appear later this month. Both notebooks come with NEC's standard three-year limited warranty on all parts and labor. In addition, with submission of the product registration card, customers will get a free year of NEC's UltraCare enhanced warranty service program. NEC is a division of U.S.-based Packard Bell. Packard Bell NEC, Inc.'s Canadian operation is headquartered in Mississauga, Ont. The company's U.S. parent is located in California. In Canada, The Cohen Group of Toronto handles NEC's advertising, while Continental Communications of Toronto is responsible for PR.
