Somm wine app debuts

A new company called Somm has launched in Toronto and released a mobile application intended to assist consumers choose wines. The free application is available for Android and Apple devices. According to the company, it is intended to make the intricacies of wine more accessible to consumers seeking a pairing for an occasion, food or budget. The application is also an online store via which consumers can purchase recommended wines. The company plans to expand its operations nationally in 2021, and then into the United States.

“There are so many unwritten rules when it comes to buying and enjoying a glass or bottle of wine that it can lead to a lot of guessing, intimidation and confusion,” said Jennifer Stasiewich, chief executive officer at Somm. “Wine is meant to be loved and enjoyed, so we need to revolutionize how wine is selected and sold, and remove these barriers. Even individuals who feel like they are ‘everyday wine experts,’ can be left staring blankly at menus or aimlessly meandering wine shops. Somm works with you to eliminate that guesswork and enhance your wine experience.”
