Royal Canadian Legion conducts Fortnite promotion

The Royal Canadian Legion has begun a promotion in collaboration with video game company Epic Games called “Remembrance Island.” The initiative takes the form of a custom level for the video game Fortnite. Players of the game who enter an online code will arrive on an island containing recreations of First World War trenches, D-Day beaches, a Canadian military cemetery and a recreation of the Vimy Ridge memorial cenotaph in France. The promotion was developed by Wunderman Thomson of Toronto.

“It’s our hope that young Canadians will take a few moments to visit this unique environment and learn about the men and women who gave their lives to protect our freedom,” said Freeman Chute, senior program officer at the Royal Canadian Legion. “As time goes on, we have to find new ways to reach young people and tell the story of Canadian veterans. This is a fantastic example of how to do just that.”
