DanceSafe releases overdose awareness video
By Adnews Staff
Public health organization DanceSafe has released an online video intended to raise awareness of the risk of overdose by recreational drug users. Developed by The Garden of Toronto, the video is aimed primarily at cocaine users and addresses the increasing presence of the synthetic opioid fentanyl in the North American supply of illicit drugs. The video recommends the use of test strips that can be used to detect these substances. The release of the video has been timed to coincide with International Overdose Awareness Day on Aug. 31.
“We know that the days of ‘just say no’ are long behind us, and that the war on drugs was lost,” said Shane Oglivie, founder of The Garden. “We want to help educate people on harm reduction strategies that can actually make an impact, and shift the public conversation towards practical, evidence-based solutions to the opioid crisis.”
