Film and TV groups begin Just Ask campaign

A group of organizations representing the Canadian film and television sector have begun a campaign called “Just Ask” in advance of the upcoming federal election this fall. The campaign includes the participation of the Directors Guild of Canada, the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists and the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees. It encourages members of these groups to attend one election-related event and ask a candidate a question about the future of the industry. The initiative is based online at <http://www.justask2019.ca>. The site offers background information on the election and a list of sample questions on topics including arts funding, tax credits, worker protections, copyright, public broadcasting and diversity. The effort also includes social media activities.

“Creative industry workers are seeking out candidates from all political parties to ‘Just Ask’ them where they stand on supporting a strong Canadian film and TV industry,” said David Sparrow, president of ACTRA. “With original Canadian programming finding audiences around the world, we'll be asking federal election candidates to share their plans to ensure the continued growth of our Canadian entertainment industry.”
