Postmedia readies political ad registry

Postmedia Network of Toronto is developing a digital advertising registry to comply with the Canada Elections Act and its recent amendments. These modifications require digital publications accepting political advertising to publish a registry of these ads. This includes ads from political parties, candidates, other regulated political entities and third parties. The registry must remain visible to the public for two years and preserved for an additional five years. Postmedia’s registry will launch on June 30 at <http://adregistry.postmedia.com>.

“At Postmedia, we have developed a Canadian solution to create a Bill C-76 compliant ecosystem,” said Josh Merchant, chief technology officer at Postmedia. “Postmedia’s ad registry will allow the public to see an electronic copy of every election ad run on our digital platforms along with the name of the person who authorized the ad.”
