INTERNET USE GROWING

More and more Canadian businesses are hitting the information highway with Internet growth surging one-third in the last three months of 1996, according to the Internet Light and Power Index. By the end of the year, there were over 66,000 addresses on the World Wide Web. This compares to third quarter figures of just over 42,000 addresses. Internet use by businesses is highest in Ontario with British Columbia ranking second. There are 25,799 addresses in Ontario, rising almost 9,500 during the fourth quarter. B.C. has 22,620 addresses, with registrations jumping 7,000 in the fourth quarter. Considering population, Internet use in Quebec is low, with only 8,000 addresses. On a percentage basis, growth in Internet addresses is most rapid in smaller provinces and territories, where businesses and other organizations have doubled in number on the Internet over the last quarter. Internet Light and Power of Toronto specializes in providing high-end Internet access, World Wide Web marketing and technical support to business and other organizations.
