DIGITAL ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM SET FOR LAUNCH

Sony of Canada Ltd. is preparing to release what it's calling the "new high standard in home entertainment." In April, Sony will introduce the Digital Video Disc format to the worldwide market. With seven times the storage capacity of current compact discs, Sony says DVD is ideal for everything from full-length movies to high quality, interactive multimedia programs. The April launch will include a video player, DVD ROM drives and movie and music programs. Also set for a spring release is Sony's Dolby Digital processor, which the company says will provide movie theatre sound quality. Sony's touting the processor as the perfect companion for the DVD player. Advertising plans for the DVD system have not been finalized yet. Cohn & Wolfe of Toronto will be handling PR for the launch, while advertising will be executed by BBDO Canada. Both agencies are based in Toronto. Sony Canada, also based in Toronto, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony Corporation of Tokyo.
