MEC launches Good Times Outside website

Toronto-based outdoor equipment retailer Mountain Equipment Co-op has launched a new website intended to encourage consumers to engage in outdoor activities. The site, located at <http://www.goodtimesoutside.ca>, is aimed primarily at city residents. It offers information about a range of self-guided activities that can be undertaken near urban centres and with low barriers to entry, such as hiking, biking, running, camping, water sports and climbing. Visitors to the site can filter these activities by geographical location, skill level, time available and "vibe." The site also offers information about recommended equipment and a series of organized events that will take place nationally this summer. These will include 25 outdoor events designed by MEC staff, as well as festivals and other activities.
"Being active outside is incredibly beneficial for people's physical and mental health," said MEC CEO David Labistour. "To help Canadians discover these benefits, we created the Good Times Outside site to spark mini-adventures and give practical advice about how to make them happen. The Good Times Outside Guide is the digital manifestation of our purpose to inspire and enable people to live active outdoor lifestyles. We hope to show that with a little help and a lot of inspiration, good times outside are there for the taking."
