Alzheimer Society of Calgary conducts awareness campaign

The Alzheimer Society of Calgary and Dementia Network Calgary have begun a new campaign called "Forgetting the Past." Produced by Someplace Nice of Toronto, the campaign seeks to raise awareness of the emotional and physical damage caused by degenerative brain diseases, both to individuals and families. The 45-second video depicts a woman struggling to remember the details of her brother's experiences as a soldier in the Second World War. It concludes with the tagline, "Dementia takes more than memories." The ad will run online and on Calgary television stations.

"Our goal was to create an emotive commercial that would move the needle on raising awareness about dementia in the community and the effects it has on families as well as the person with the diagnosis," said Jill Petrovic, director of philanthropy and engagement at the society.
