NINTENDO LAUNCHES GRETZKY GAME

Nintendo of Canada Ltd. is hoping to score some big sales with its release of Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey this week. The new game is designed for the Nintendo 64 game system, launched in North America this fall. Players use the same rules as the real NHL, including penalties, offsides and icing. The game also boasts video replay and includes the option of playing two-on-two, three-on-three, or four-on-four, rather than the traditional five-on-five. Up to four players at once can compete. The game is being promoted through TV spots running during hockey broadcasts. The game was also featured at the first-ever Nintendo 64 Video Game Charity Challenge held this week at Wayne Gretzky's Restaurant in Toronto. Hockey personalities and members of the media faced off against each other to raise $2,500 and an equal amount in merchandise for the Canadian Special Olympics. Leo Burnett Company of Toronto created the TV ads. GCI Communications of Toronto is handling PR.
