Veterans Affairs Canada begins online promotion

Ottawa-based Veterans Affairs Canada has begun an online promotion called "Get to Know Your Veterans." Located at <http://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/remembrance/get-to-know-your-veterans>, the initiative encourages veterans to submit their personal stories. The intent is to raise public awareness of the the diversity of people in the Canadian Armed Forces. The new section will highlight the various cultures, religions, genders and ethnicities of Canadian veterans. Profiles of various participants will also be posted on the organization's social media channels.
"At Veterans Affairs Canada and the Government of Canada, we believe that diversity is one of Canada's greatest strengths," said Kent Hehr, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence. "Canada's military history is best told through the stories of those diverse men and women who served in it. This new online initiative is meant to help as many Canadians as possible celebrate their contributions as part of our military history."
