Mattel readies You Can Be Anything Barbie promotion

Mattel Canada of Toronto is preparing a promotion for its Barbie line of toys tied to the upcoming Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day on April 28. According to the company, the campaign is intended to encourage girls to pursue their dreams for the future using the tagline, "You Can Be Anything." The promotion includes a contest encouraging girls to share via social media sites photographs of what they want to be when they grow up. From April 28 to May 2, consumers will be invited to submit their photographs via Facebook, Twitter and Barbie.ca. Four winners will receive an experience during which they will get to live-out their dream career for a day.

"Barbie has always aimed to show young girls that they can be anything they can imagine from movie star to doctor," said Akram Sharkawy, brand communications marketing manager at Mattel Canada. "She's always been a role model in being true to herself and making possibilities come to life, and to a child, that's everything. We want to empower girls across the country to let their imaginations run wild and build confidence in going after their dreams, letting them know that there is no limit."
