Nestle Purina readies 24 hours of live cat video

Toronto-based Nestlé Purina Canada will conduct and online initiative on Oct. 29 to coincide with National Cat Day. On that day, the pet food company will run 24 hours of live video of cats available for adoption. The cats, which will be located in a glass-enclosed play area, will periodically be introduced by Purina staff members. The video will be hosted through streaming service Periscope at <http://www.purina.ca/catathon>. In addition, for each Twitter message posted that day using a campaign hashtag, the company will donate one dollar to the Toronto Humane Society. It will donate an additional $100 for each cat adopted from the organization on National Cat Day.
"It reminds me of when I was a kid, and I would stop to look through the pet shop window at the cats and kittens playing together," said Melissa Eckersley, events and education manager at Purina PawsWay. "It's timeless. People of all ages can't help but watch the cats and their antics. But most of all, it means a great deal to us at Purina to be able to help find adopted homes for the cats that come to the Friskies Playhouse, and to raise vital funds for the Toronto Humane Society at the same time. It makes us feel like we're making a real difference, helping to bring people and pets together, and ensuring that animals in shelters get the care they desperately need."
