Italian Trade Commission readies Canadian campaign

The Italian Trade Commission will conduct a promotion in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver this week to promote foods and wines from Italy. In each city, a delegation of 70 Italian food and wine producers will promote their products to Canadian supermarket buyers, importers, agents, brokers, distributors and media outlets. These events will be part of the commission's overall campaign for 2015, which is intended to educate consumers about the differences between Italian and "Italian-sounding" foods.

"Every time consumers buy a food product that sounds Italian but is not, they are effectively being misled," said Pasquale Bova, Italian Trade Commissioner to Canada. "Italian-sounding imitations are not the same as certified 'Made in Italy' products because they are not subject to the same strict standards of production which determine the characteristics that make original 'Made in Italy' products world-renowned."
