CHICKEN CHAIN FIGHTS KFC IN CHINA

Two chicken chains are battling it out in the Chinese market. Ronghua Chicken, the Chinese-style fast food chain headquartered in Shanghai, has added some more Western-tasting food to its menu to combat U.S.-based Kentucky Fried Chicken. The chain now offers western-style bread, Danish ham, hot dogs, Japanese milkshakes, ice cream, red tea and chocolate. Ronghua opened six years ago to challenge the expansion of KFC. It serves up chicken with a more Chinese taste than that of KFC. However, KFC sales are flying and Ronghua's are remaining flat because children seem to be more receptive to Western-tasting food.
