Study: Media consumption of new Canadians

Yahoo Canada has released the results of a study called "Digital Acculturation," focusing on the consumer behaviour of people who have been living in Canada for five years of less. According to the study, new Canadians watch 90 minutes of television today, compared to 2.5 hours for Canadians in general, and listen to one hour of radio per day, compared to the average of 2.1 hours. In addition, new Canadians spend four hours per day using mobile devices, compare to the average of 2.6 hours, and spend 3.8 hours using a desktop computer. Of the respondents, 47% want to consume media in their first language. In addition, 46% said they would like to see ads featuring people of their own cultural background, and 48% said they pay more attention to ads in their native languages.
