Open Streets Toronto signs sponsors

Open Streets Toronto has signed a number of sponsors for its inaugural event this month. On Aug. 17 and 31, between 8 a.m. and noon, sections of Bloor and Yonge Streets will be closed to automotive traffic and opened to pedestrians. Participating sponsors include Holt Renfrew, Bike Share Toronto, the Downtown Yonge BIA, Ryerson University, Bennett Jones, Grandez Vous, The 519 Church Street Community Centre, the Toronto Parking Authority and 8-80 Cities.

Holt Renfrew will also host an "Activity Hub" during the event, in the form of a temporary installation intended to provide a cultural or entertainment experience. In addition, Bike Share Toronto will offer 1,000 free 24-hour passes to attendees on each day of the event. The locations of the giveaways will be distributed through the Open Streets Toronto Twitter page.

"We're pleased to celebrate the community values of Open Streets, and look forward to greeting visitors from across the GTA," said James Watt, general manager of Holt Renfrew Bloor Street. "We will be welcoming everyone at our Activity Hub with a store-front magenta fashion runway, coffee and donut refreshments and a dog watering station."
