Meridian seeks naming rights to Barrie public space

Toronto-based credit union Meridian has proposed acquiring the naming rights to a new city centre public gathering space in downtown Barrie, ON. The proposal, which is yet to be approved by the city's council, would secure Meridian the naming rights to the space for 25 years for a payment of $750,000 over 10 years. The space, which is scheduled for completion in 2016, encompasses an area from Memorial Square to Heritage Park. It will be used for public gatherings and events.

Upon approval by the city, Meridian will conduct a vote to encourage residents of Barrie to select a favourite name from among three options. The vote will take place at Meridian branches at online at <http://www.meridiancu.ca/votebarrie>.

"We're committed to building stronger communities and supporting economic development in the places where we operate and we're thrilled to have such a great opportunity to do just that," said Bill Maurin, president and CEO of Meridian. "This partnership is another great opportunity to strengthen our ties and help build the Barrie community. We look forward to this next exciting chapter of our relationship with the residents and business owners in the City of Barrie in the months and years ahead."
