Sobeys begins potluck party promotion

Grocery store chain Sobeys has begun a promotion called "Canada's Biggest Potluck Party" tied to an upcoming event on May 16 called "Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution Day." The national promotion will encourage consumers to cook and eat a meal with their family and friends, and to post photographs of the occasion on Twitter or Instagram. For each photo, Sobeys will donate one dollar to the Children's Aid Foundation's Cooking Toward Independence Project, up to a maximum of $25,000. The foundation works to teach young people leaving the child welfare system to cook. Food Revolution Day works to raise awareness of the importance of food and cooking education. The promotion also includes a website at <http://www.betterfoodforall.com> at which consumers can register to participate and access a meal planner.

"Research we conducted earlier this year revealed that only one in five Canadians are preparing at least one meal a day from scratch and we want to see that number increase and inspire more Canadians to get in the kitchen," said Doug Brummer, senior vice-president of marketing at Sobeys. "We think a potluck party is the perfect occasion to bring people together and share a meal made with better food."
