Lowe's begins Build-It-Yourself pilot program

Build-It-Yourself Learning Centres of Burlington, ON has begun a joint initiative with home improvement retail chain Lowe's Canada. The initiative currently takes the form of a pilot program at the Vaughn, ON Lowe's location. The store now hosts a Build-It-Yourself Learning Centre that will offer a range of skills training for home improvement enthusiasts. The classroom environment includes a collection of workstations, tools and presentation facilities. Courses will include tiling, plumbing, upholstery, flooring, drywall installation, painting and others, using a curriculum developed by Conestoga College of Kitchener, ON. "We're delighted to welcome the BiY program to Lowe's," said Sylvain Prud'homme, president of Lowe's Canada. "Their inclusive, hands-on approach to customer experience aligns powerfully with our own values and with our commitment to one-on-one support for the home improvement goals of all Canadians." Additional locations will be opened at Lowe's stores in Scarborough and London, ON later this year. The learning centres are being sponsored by Elmer's, Kohler, Stanley DeWalt and Valspar.
