Mobilicity to host Mobile Phone Throwing Championship
By Adnews Staff
Cellular provider Mobilicity will conduct an event in Toronto on Oct. 13 called the "First Annual Canadian Mobile Phone Throwing Championship." The event is modeled on a similar competition that takes place in Finland. During halftime at the Varsity Blues football game that day, three finalists will compete to see who can throw a mobile phone the farthest down the field. Qualifying rounds will take place before the game. The winner will receive $5,000, a Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone and a year's service from Mobilicity. The second- and third-place finishers will each receive a smartphone and service. The event has been scheduled to coincide with Waste Reduction Week. Mobilicity will also have recycling bins in the stadium to encourage attendees to recycle old cell phones. "It's no secret that most Canadians have been frustrated for years about being locked into mobile phone contracts and paying the highest rates in the world," said Anthony Booth, chief customer officer at Mobilicity. "We understand what Canadians have been going through and want to give them the unique opportunity to unleash their pent-up frustration and make history at the same time."
