Retail chain Shoppers Drug Mart began a series of promotions marking its 50th anniversary this weekend. On Sept. 8 and 9, the company conducted a promotion called "National Makeover Weekend," during which customers received free makeovers at Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmaprix stores nationally. The company has also begun a national contest that will run until Sept. 23. Consumers who make a purchase during the contest will receive an identification number that can be submitted online to enter. Participants can also play an online game to receive extra entries. Prizes will include 15 Chevrolet vehicles, 20 trips from Signature Vacations and 15 shopping sprees worth $5,000 each. The company has also produced a commemorative 70-page single-issue magazine called Let's Celebrate, which is being distributed through its stores. Shoppers Drug Mart is also selling a limited-edition "60s-inspired" makeup collection developed by Quo Cosmetics. The company is also inviting consumers to post personal stories about Shoppers Drug Mart online at a "50 Fabulous Years" website. "For five decades Canadians have trusted Shoppers Drug Mart, making us the number one provider of pharmacy products and services in Canada and a top destination for their health, beauty and convenience needs," said Domenic Pilla, president and CEO of Shoppers Drug Mart. "Now we look forward to celebrating this milestone with Canadians and hearing their own stories about how Shoppers Drug Mart has impacted their lives."
