The Montreal-based Ordre des dentistes du Québec has begun an online contest promotion aimed at teenagers. The promotion, called "A healthy smile is cool," is aimed at people between the ages of 12 and 18. The contest is being conducted via Facebook and in association with Cool magazine. Each week in April, users can enter a draw by reading information on one of four subjects and answering a question. Topics include tooth jewellery, teeth whitening, energy drinks and mouth guards. The winner will receive an Apple IPad and an Xbox Kinect. "Adolescence is a crucial time when it comes to acquiring and maintaining good oral hygiene and healthy habits," said Barry Dolman, president of the organization. "It's also a time when we want to try everything. So it's important that our young people and their parents have the reflex to consult a dentist on any matters affecting their oral health, whether it's a question of the risks related to certain fashions or habits, or ways of better protecting their mouths and teeth."
