CANADIANS LEADING HEALTHIER LIFESTYLES
By Adnews Staff
A survey conducted by ACNeilsen of Markham, Ont. from June 1995 to June 1996 suggests that Canadians are leaning toward healthier eating. The survey measured growth rate by tonnage of various products filling grocery store shelves and made note of those that either grew or declined by 15%. In the growth category, such healthy products as chilled fruit juice, rice and corn cakes and dried apricots made an appearance, while canned corn beef, canned and bottled shrimp and hot instant tea fell by at least 15%. The survey also suggested that Canadians are looking for easier-to-prepare items, owing to less time being available for meal preparation. Refrigerated pasta and pasta sauce, as well as frozen pizza, french bread and subs appeared in the growth category, while bread mixes and napkins declined by over 15%.
