Study: CRTC on online and mobile broadcasting services
By Adnews Staff
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has announced the results of its fact-finding exercise regarding the nature and implications of online and mobile broadcasting activity. According to the commission, the study produced "inconclusive results." According to the gathered responses, the traditional broadcasting system continues to support Canadian programming even as new content delivery services emerge. Current measurement tools were described as unable to accurately reflect trends in online and mobile consumer behaviour. The study also found "no clear evidence" that Canadians are reducing or cancelling television subscriptions in favour of online or mobile services, while recognizing that some online programming services have established viable business models. The CRTC has announced plans to continue to monitor the situation, including another fact-finding exercise to begin in May 2012.
