THOMSON REPORTS INCREASED EARNINGS
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Thomson Corp. has reported earnings of $33 million(US) for the six-months ending June 30. This compares to earnings of $11 million during the same period last year. The increase is mainly due to the sale of anewspaper centre in Aberdeen, Scotland, and to lower financing costs as a result of a lower level of debt. Revenue for the newspaper operations was up 7.1% compared to the same period last year. Advertising revenues had strong or moderate growth in all categories except national advertising. Advertising linage was also higher mainly because of the growth in classified linage.
