Survey: Canada most respected country brand in the world

New York-based brand consulting firm FutureBrand has ranked Canada as having the most respected country brand in the world, according to its annual survey. The report cited Canada's exposure due to the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver as a factor that moved the country to the top of the list. Canada placed 12th in these rankings in 2006, sixth in 2007 and second in 2008 and 2009, behind the United States. "Several years ago, CTC set out to refresh Canada's tourism brand in anticipation of being on the world stage in 2010," said Michele McKenzie president and CEO of the Canadian Tourism Commission. "We believed that with the right strategy a legacy of the games could result in more interest in Canada as a travel destination, and ultimately more visitors."
