Website roundup

Sympatico.ca has undertaken a new joint venture with Ovation Media. The two companies have launched two new online products aimed at sports fans: My Hockey Pool and Monhockey.com. Participants in these sites will be eligible for up to $20,000 in prizes during the 2010/2011 season pool. "Hockey's always been our most popular section of Sympatico Sports, so adding a hockey pool is a great way to further engage our users," said Michele Ferrari, senior director of content at Sympatico.ca. "You can play the pool individually and compete with all the other participants, or you can create your own league with friends. It's a great way to spark up a friendly rivalry and earn bragging rights, whether in person or through social media."

A new website aimed at the Canadian commercial photography industry has been launched at <http://www.themeatmarket.ca>. The site is aimed at photographers, modelling agencies, stylists, location scouts and producers. The site was founded by Anna Goodson, operator of representation firm Anna Goodson Management. "Prior to The MeatMarket, there was no way of sourcing the industry's best professionals, that’s whether they worked as photographers or behind the scenes," said Goodson. "There are of course some sites out there but none include everything all under one roof. Plus their standards tend to be low as they accept anyone who applies. At The MeatMarket, membership is by invite only. We only accept the very best. All of our members benefit from ongoing marketing and advertising as well as social media branding. My goal is to make The MeatMarket the one place that everyone comes to who is looking for talent in the Canadian commercial photography industry." Members of the site can establish portfolios of work and post news about their activities. Users looking for talent can filter their search results by geographic area or by specialty.
