NEW COUNTRY NETWORK DEAL GETS OKAY
By Adnews Staff
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has given the thumbs-up to a deal shifting more ownership of the New Country Network to Shaw Communications Inc. of Calgary. Rawlco Communications Ltd., also of Calgary, sold its 51% stake in the country music channel to Shaw earlier this month, giving Shaw 80% ownership of the company. The remaining 20% is owned by Westinghouse Inc. of New York. The CRTC will require the channel to broadcast 30% Canadian content to begin with, rising to 40% Can-con by 2002.
