Toronto Hydro conducts conservation contest

Toronto Hydro-Electric System has begun a contest promotion called "Count Me In Toronto" intended to encourage residents of that city to conserve electricity during the summer. The initiative is centred on a website at <http://www.countmeintoronto.ca>. Registered participants who take actions such as buying compact fluorescent lightbulbs and trading in inefficient air conditioners will earn points. At the end of the promotion on Sept. 6, the city ward whose residents have accumulated the most points will receive green energy refit of a local public building. In addition, five random participants will win MacBook laptops. "The purpose of Count Me In Toronto is to foster a greater sense of community pride by encouraging residents to green their neighbourhoods," said Toronto Hydro president and CEO David O'Brien. "The hope is that citizens' competitiveness will come out once customers log-on to the website and see how their ward is doing and inspire them to participate in as many conservation programs as possible."
