Virgin Mobile begins summer intern contest

Toronto-based cell phone provider Virgin Mobile has begun a new phase of its “Screw You Recession” campaign. The initiative takes the form of an online contest, the winner of which will receive a three-month paid internship at Virgin Mobile, as well as a laptop, a smartphone, a video camera and an interview with Virgin founder Richard Branson. Entrants must post a video at <http://www.screwyourecessionintern.com> explaining why they should be chosen for the job. Five finalists, selected by public voting, will go on to a round of interviews with the company. “Job hunting this summer is going to be more difficult than it has been in a long time,” said Virgin Mobile chief marketing officer Nathan Rosenberg. “This is a one-of-a-kind chance and, except for my job, is probably the coolest gig you can get your hands on. The winner will be the voice, eyes, and ears of young Canadians and will put their issues and concerns centre stage during these tough times. They’ll represent us at government news conferences and seek out the best money saving deals. They’ll help build www.screwyourecession.ca into the place to go for those in the know. The job isn’t going to be easy, but we can guarantee it will be an amazing three months that could lead to big time opportunities. The icing on the cake is that they’ll get to work for one of the world’s coolest brands.” The Screw You Recession campaign began in February with outdoor and online marketing focused on ways to save money.
