Rogers gains license for Toronto news channel

The CRTC has granted Rogers Media a license for a category two digital television channel that will carry news programming aimed at the Greater Toronto Area. "Torontonians and residents of the GTA will now be able to enjoy greater diversity when it comes to local news, weather and sports," said Jamie Haggarty, executive vice-president of operations at Rogers Media Television. "Citytv's unique brand of news and information, complimented by our ethnically diverse Omni stations is the perfect combination to deliver a full time channel committed to the local perspective." The 24-hour channel will also air news items from Rogers media properties including The Fan 590, 680News, Sportsnet, and the Toronto Blue Jays.
