PHILIP MORRIS IN HOT WATER OVER ADS

U.S.-based Philip Morris Cos. could be heading to court over a European campaign that says second-hand smoke is no more dangerous than eating cookies, or drinking milk or water. Judges in Brussels and Paris are ruling on an injunction this week against the campaign. Belgian and French cookie makers are seeking the injunction. The ads have drawn complaints from the European Commission, several government officials, as well as the dairy and water industries. The Dutch government is asking the country's advertising standards association to investigate the Philip Morris campaign, and is encouraging the country's anti-smoking lobby to take action against the company.
