TV AND BASKETBALL TOP THE LIST

Teenagers around the world love basketball and watch lots of TV, according to a study by the Brainwaves Group of New York. On every continent, teenagers watch TV for about six hours a day. North American teens watch about 5.3 hours of TV a day, while those in Latin America watch 6.7 hours and those in Africa 6.2 hours. Chinese teens watch the least TV, with about five hours a day spent in front of the tube. Basketball is the most popular sport among, with 77% of those surveyed saying they either watched it or played it, including 64% of girls and 77% of boys. Eighty-one per cent of the respondents said they had used computers in the last year, while just 10% had surfed the Internet. The highest rate of computer use was in Peru, with 99%, and the lowest rate of computer use was Japan with 43%. Fifty-five percent said they expect to travel a lot and 43% plan to live in the country of their birth. Brainwaves surveyed middle-class youths 15 to 18 years-of-age between November 1995 and April 1996.
