Transcontinental readies biodegradable Publi-Sac bags

Montreal-based Transcontinental will switch to a biodegradable plastic bag for its Publi-Sac free-standing insert distribution service. The bags, which are produced by Environmental Products of Vancouver, are intended to break into fragments within 120 days and biodegrade within two years. The new bags will go into use in early 2008. "Transcontinental is committed to implementing ways of doing business that promote sustainable development," said Luc Desjardins, president and CEO of Transcontinental. "The Publi-Sac is reusable and recyclable. Now it's also biodegradable. This is an important step that reflects our commitment to the environment."
