EYE CLINICS GOING WORLDWIDE

First Centennial Laser Securities Corp. of Calgary is buying a 22.5% stake in the laser eye surgery chain Shooting Star Technologies for $5 million. The deal will allow Shooting Star to expand into Asia and South America. Currently the public company operates four centres in Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon and Las Vegas. It will open one in Toronto and one in Vancouver on Sept. 1, and two in China on Aug. 1. Shooting Star is also negotiating to open centres in Thailand, Japan and Brazil. The company handles its advertising in-house. Besides operating refractive surgery centres, Shooting Star provides ophthalmic practitioners with training, marketing, operational, equipment maintenance and consultation services.
