CanWest to bring E brand to Canada

CanWest MediaWorks will rebrand its CH Network as E! on Sept. 1 as part of a licensing agreement with Comcast Entertainment Group of Los Angeles. By the terms of the deal, CanWest will manage the brand in Canada in broadcast, online, mobile, video-on-demand and satellite radio media. The schedule will contain a mix of primetime network programming, both from US-based E! Entertainment Television and newly produced Canadian content. Each station will also continue to provide local news and information programming under their existing call letters CHCH News, CHEK News, CHBC News, CHCA News and CJNT Montreal. “This innovative alliance affords us access to multimedia content to help drive success within our broadcast business,” said Kathleen Dore, president of Canadian television at CanWest MediaWorks. “We are very confident that the powerful combination of the E! brand and content, alongside our Canadian and local programming, will resonate strongly with Canadian audiences. While Global Television continues to experience strong momentum, the launch of the E! brand in Canada will redefine our second conventional television network.”
