New campaign for Global National begins

CanWest MediaWorks has begun a national marketing campaign for its Global National news program. The campaign uses the tagline, “News Understood.” On-air, print and radio ads will present the program as making news understandable by breaking down complex issues and delivering clear information. The three 30-second television commercials depict the program’s senior correspondents Francis Silvaggio, Jennifer Tryon and Mike Edgell on a stage, speaking quotations from various historical sources. The program’s anchor, Kevin Newman, appears at the end of each ad to deliver the tagline. A second round of commercials featuring other personalities from the show will be produced later this fall. “This powerful new campaign reinforces the unique perspective that has made Global National the country's most-watched national newscast,” said Walter Levitt, senior vice-president of marketing for television and radio at CanWest MediaWorks. “We're bringing our Global National brand promise to life with creative that we hope will resonate with our viewers, both emotionally and intellectually.” The campaign, which will run through the year, was created by the Global Television Marketing department.
