Toronto Star readies downloadable afternoon newspaper

On Sept. 5, the Toronto Star will introduce what it describes as North America’s first downloadable afternoon newspaper. The free publication, called Star P.M., will be made available in PDF format through a website located at <http://www.thestar.com/starpm> each weekday at 3:30pm. Each issue will consist of eight pages designed to be printed on standard letter-sized paper. The publication will carry breaking daily news, lifestyle and entertainment stories, crossword and sudoku puzzles, traffic and weather information, as well as advertising. Advertisers participating in the launch of Star P.M. include Air Canada, CBC, General Motors, Mirvish Productions and Remax. “Star P.M. will satisfy the afternoon craving for breaking news about the things that matter to Torontonians,” said Toronto Star publisher Michael Goldbloom. “With up-to-the-minute news, weather, transit and traffic reports in an easy-to-read printable format, Star P.M. will complement the Toronto Star and TheStar.com, providing many readers with the news they want, in the format that best meets their needs.”
