Yahoo Canada begins Ask the Planet campaign

Toronto-based Yahoo Canada has begun a campaign called “Ask the Planet 2006” to promote its Yahoo Canada Answers service. Users of this service, located at <http://answers.yahoo.ca>, can post questions on any topic and solicit answers from other users. During the promotion, which will run from June 13 to July 10, various Canadian and international experts and celebrities will ask a question each day. Visitors to the site will be invited to submit answers to the daily questions. Those submitters whose answers are voted best of the day will be entered into a draw for various prizes. Participants will include golfer Mike Weir, parenting expert Ann Douglas, technology writer Marc Saltzman, holder of the world record for highest IQ Marilyn Vos Savant, former US vice-president Al Gore, theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking and rock musician Bono. “The participation of some of the world's leading thinkers with Ask The Planet really drives home how interconnected the world has become through the power of social search,” said Andy Renieris, product manager at Yahoo Canada. “Imagine, you may be one of a few people who actually answers a question for one of the smartest people on earth.”
