Tim Hortons breaks new commercial

Donut chain Tim Hortons has released a new television commercial as part of its ongoing "True Stories" campaign. The ad, in 60- and 90-second versions, broke last week during coverage of the Olympic Games and will run through February. The ad begins with a man bringing two cups of coffee to a hockey rink for himself and his adult son. The ad then moves to a flashback in which the father calls son in from a street hockey game to do homework. Back in the present, the man tells his son that he has come to watch his grandson play, just as he secretly watched his son play years ago. The ad closes with a new tagline for the campaign, "Every cup tells a story." "We had many compelling and heart-warming stories to choose from, but this one stood out because it managed to tie three generations with a Canadian tradition," said Paul Wales, president and chief creative officer of Enterprise Advertising, which created the commercial. "It also conveys the feeling of belonging as a new Canadian. Not many brands can make that emotional connection like Tim Hortons."
