Problem gambling awareness campaign begins in Quebec

The Montreal-based Fondation Mise sur toi will break a new campaign in Quebec tomorrow intended to raise awareness of the problem of compulsive gambling in that province. The campaign will run on major Quebec television networks as well as several community stations until May 6. The initiative will consist of four 30-second commercials, two of which will be in English and two in French. The creative will illustrate the signs that can indicate a gambling problem and direct viewers to a toll-free help line. Media personalities Ellen David and Harry Standjofski appear in the English ads, while Macha Limonchik and Denis Bouchard appear in the French-language commercials. A series of ads will also run in major Quebec daily newspapers. These use the copy "It's Only a Game" and "It's Nothing More Than Chance." Some weekly newspapers will also be used in areas with high concentrations of video lottery terminals. Also, a pamphlet called "Your Player Profile in 8 Questions" will be distributed as an insert in all Quebec daily newspapers on Feb. 18. The pamphlet will also be distributed through lottery retail locations, as well as participating bingo halls, casinos and video lottery terminal sites. Approximately 3,000,000 copies of the publication will be distributed, according to the organization.
