McDonald's begins Olympic advertising

McDonald's Canada broke two new 30-second television commercials on Jan. 30 as part of its sponsorship of the upcoming Torino Winter Olympic Games. The first ad promotes the fast food chain's Gold Medal Meal, which will be sold through the month of February. The ad communicates the importance of supporting Canadian athletes competing in the games. It will be supported with radio, out-of-home and print advertising. The second ad promotes the availability of Team Canada mini hockey jerseys, which will be sold at McDonald's restaurants through February. Both ads were created by Cossette Communications Group. They will be joined by several internationally-produced commercials that will also air in Canada. One 30- and 60-second ads depicts a boy on his way to becoming an Olympic athlete. Several 15-second commercials depict spokescharacter Ronald McDonald competing in ski jumping, ski aerials and figure skating. These ads were created by TBWA Paris. The McDonald's Canada website will also offer various Olympic-themed activities. McDonald's is the official restaurant of the Olympic Games.
